It can be done...maybe. I have been putting off buying a double stroller for months now. Having the girls so close together in age poses a problem when you only have one stroller and are too cheap to shell out a couple hundred dollars for one that is just bigger, bulkier, and heavier. Today we decided to go to the mall as a family...all 4 of us...to buy some new summer clothes for me. Thank goodness Michael has Thursdays off...he pushed Gracie in a little lightweight (cheap) umbrella stroller that my parents lent us...I pushed Michaela in the who's your daddy stroller. Poor guy...while I was trying on clothes, he was trying to keep Gracie in her stroller while pushing Michaela enough to keep her moving and therefore content. Living with two little people and a single stroller can be done....you just have to plan any outings when both parents can go...and even then it is a little tricky. Since Michael has 4 weekdays off we refuse to give in to the "what every parent has to have" gimmick and try to get by like we did today...should be interesting. We are holding out until Michaela gets big enough to ride in one of the lightweight side by sides....much cheaper. Overall, a pretty successful trip...a few minor fits from Gracie, a complete throw-the-outfit away diaper blowout from Michaela...but all was worth it, because I actually have clothes to wear this summer....Who cares that within a month's time all of my new fabulous clothes will have spit up stains and other not so great stains...for a short time...I have a fabulous wardrobe.
Oh the difference between the first child and second child...when Gracie was born, we wanted the newest best things for her...no hand me downs, no gently used items. Now we are just happy to have both girls dressed and clean at the same time, happy, and dry. It doesn't matter nearly as much what things are doing the job.
